Back in June a team of 4 from Space Catering took part in the Cotswold PLOD for Action Medical Research, setting a target to raise £1500 for this fantastic cause.

Sian, Ian, Louise and Kenn (AKA SILK) completed the 40 miles in 17 and ½ hours, through darkness, rain, thunder, lightning, hailstones, thick mud and lots and lots of path-wide puddles.

Thanks to the efforts of SILK and the generous support of their sponsors, the team has raised a whopping £4,195, smashing their original target and topping the Action Medical Research league of fundraisers to become the highest sponsored team of 4 in this year’s Cotswold PLOD.

It’s a fantastic achievement and thanks need to go to everyone who supported including Brenda, team driver and all who sponsored, not forgetting Team SILK themselves who battled injury and the elements to complete the challenge.

Action Medical Research is a charity dedicated to improving the health of babies and children.

Helping children like Joshua, who has a rare and incurable condition, Jeune syndrome, and needs a ventilator to help him breathe and Iona, who at five, was diagnosed with brain cancer and has endured so much treatment she now has long-term learning difficulties including perception and memory problems
More About Action Medical Research

Despite enormous progress in medicine, there are still hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled children who need our help. Children like Katie, born two months early who needed resuscitating at birth, Cieran who was left with deafness, epilepsy and cerebral palsy because of meningitis and Jack, who as a baby, was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Action Medical Research is offering hope to the many thousands of families who are dealing with the trauma of a baby born too early, striving to support a child affected by disability, or facing the challenge of caring for a child with a rare and devastating disease for which there is no cure.
Right now the best medical minds in children’s hospitals and universities across the UK are waiting for the green light to start research that could lead to life-changing treatments for babies and children. They just need the funding.
